2 Reasons You Do Not Write As Often

FOS (Fear of Sucking) & The Isolation

These are the two reasons I learned why I and many others do not write as often as we should as a screenwriter.

We Connected Productions, LLC attended the September 17 & 18 Screenwriting workshop by the Independent Film School by Ela Thier in Manhattan, NY.

How do you combat those two reasons: Freewriting and Listening in Pairs

Freewriting
Do this everyday for at least 10min. You can write about anything. Your to do list, grocery list, what you did the night before, what you did that day leading up to to your Freewrite. And if you continue to get stuck then write the same word over and over again without the lifting the pencil/pen off the paper. Eventually your mind will be free for you to begin writing a screenplay(short or feature).

Interesting Fact: There is no difference from a full-time screenplay writer and a writer who Freewrites everyday for at least 10min. Try it.

You will soon be writing for up to 40min. or more without realizing as we did this past weekend. You will be so involve with your characters and their lives. You will start interviewing your characters, then scenes will evolve, and eventually dialogue will begin to flow. All of a sudden you will have your screenplay.

Make it fun: Do Freewriting with groups via meet-ups and Write dates.
Start one in your community.Go to www.meetup.com to start one.

Listening in Pairs
You talk for 2-3min. with no interruption from the person listening to you. You talk either about various ideas you have for a screenplay or a specific screenplay idea you have in mind.

As the listener- Must make eye contact, be relaxed as you listen, enjoy the person's screenplay idea, and be pleased about it. It is not enjoyable struggling alone.

At the meet-ups try listening in pairs and one set of three if there is an odd number of attendees.
